Our Process

At Heath Refinishing we treat every piece of furniture like it is our own. In order for Heath Refinishing to create the best finished product possible, we carefully analyze each piece and work with the customer to decide the best method for restoring the piece to its natural beauty. Instead of trying to cover up the damages, Heath Refinishing will repair the wood itself by removing the old or damaged finish and restore the wood so it enhances its natural beauty. Antique restoration and antique refinishing at its finest!

Once the difficult task of removing old finish is achieved, the sanding process can begin. We view sanding as one of the most important steps in refinishing furniture and we do most of our sanding by hand to prevent the swirl marks and irregular sanding patterns that electric sanders leave behind. At Heath Refinishing, all of our antique restoration finishes are sprayed in a commercial spray booth to prevent dust or other contaminants from getting into the finish. We guarantee a perfectly smooth, flawless, and custom finish every time.

In addition to using professional stripping and spray equipment, at Heath Refinishing we always use the highest quality equipment and materials for the highest quality antique restorations and antique refinishing. We only use top of the line stains which penetrate the wood’s surface and bring out the natural beauty of the wood. These stains do not fade or break down over time like other stains, giving a lifetime of beauty to your furniture. We also use the highest quality sealer and lacquer on your furniture. Furniture manufactures and most refinishing companies use nitrocellulose lacquers which are susceptible to water rings and fading over time. At Heath Refinishing we only use the very best catalyzed lacquer. This type of lacquer is extremely scratch resistant, non toxic, and water resistant.

Steven’s deep love and appreciation for well made and custom furniture can be seen in the quality of work created by Heath Refinishing. Heath Refinishing is known for its craftsmanship and focus on excellence. Client Testimonials

I had Heath Refinishing completely refinish an old trunk that has been passed down through many generations in my family. The trunk was my great grand father’s from when his family immigrated to America from overseas, so you can imagine the sentimental value attached to this piece. The trunk was in horrible shape when I brought it to Heath Refinishing. Steven, the owner, quoted me a fair price for the amount of work they had to put into the trunk. Steven was friendly and took the time to walk me through the process of refinishing the trunk. After shopping around for a refinishing company, I felt confident that Heath Refinishing could be trusted with this job. When I got the piece back, I could not believe I was looking at the same trunk. Heath Refinishing was able to restore the trunk to its original color (who knew a color was hidden underneath rust and decades of dirt). I highly recommend this company for any of your furniture needs.

We had Heath Refinishing repair and refinish our dining room table, four chairs and leaf. It also has a matching buffet, that did not need his services. The set was a wedding present from my parents. My wife and I wanted it returned to shape in time for our 30th wedding anniversary party. It was cat clawed on the legs and survived numerous moves and holiday dinners. The flower stencil patterns on the back of the chairs were refreshed and made to look like new. We found out from Steven he handpainted the stencil patterns: what an artist. What a change on the before and after. Done right, done on time.

I brought my mother’s grandfather’s trunk to Steven to refinish if he possibly could – trunk is between 150 and 200 years old and in pretty rough shape. I was blown away today when I picked it up. It is absolutely beautiful – his craftsmanship is outstanding. I would trust him with anything to refinish. I still can’t get over what he was able to do. My sister is so jealous!!

Client Stories

antique restorationfurniture refinishingA family heirloom, restored at last – by the antique restoration experts.

This was a family heirloom that sat in a garage for years. We dismantled all the parts and rebuilt it so it would be strong and reinforced. Then, we stripped and refinished the wood to a medium walnut color to enhance the beauty of the natural wood. The new fabric was then put on and this antique chair looked better than new – truly a successful antique restoration!

antique furnitureantique restorationRestored to how it originally looked – in 1800s Germany

This Antique Trunk was restored to look how it originally did in Germany in the 1800s. This trunk originally belonged to a customer’s great grandfather who used it to pack all of his things when he moved to America. On this piece, we stripped off the old paint, sanded down all the wood, stained the wood with a dark mahogany color, and stained the trim with a medium oak color. We finished the piece by painting the metal black and replacing the leather handles. As you can see by the picture, when it comes to antique wood restoration – it really doesn’t get any better than this.

This piece was originally the customer’s grandmother’s, then used by her mother when she was a child, then passed on to the customer to use when she was a little girl. The old paint on the dresser was completely stripped off and a new finish was applied. Due to the high quality of wood that was under the old finish (which is rare), we stained everything a dark walnut color and then applied extra dark walnut shading on the edges to create more depth to the piece.

This piece belonged to the owner of a self storage in Frisco who found this gem left behind in one of the storage units. The customer knew this piece needed lots of attention and felt Heath Refinishing was up for the challenge. We completely rebuilt the piece and made a new top, built a new door, replaced all the side panels, stripped off all the old paint, refinished all the wood, and painted all the hardware and metal. We love the finished product and feel like the hard work paid off to create this beautiful and unique piece!
